Shannon Smyth

Shannon Smyth is manager of the Markets Acceleration team at Sustainability Victoria. His team is responsible for leading the implementation of the Markets Acceleration and Recycled First Programs which are two core initiatives under the Victorian Government’s Circular Economy Policy.
Shannon works to facilitate and nurture strong partnerships between tertiary institutions, industry, and government, in pursuit of a circular economy. Through the programs he leads, he drives demand for recycled materials across the economy, identifying new uses for recycled materials, building knowledge of and confidence in these products whilst working with industry to ensure sustainable supply and commercial viability.
Prior to his time at Sustainability Victoria, Shannon held roles as an Environmental Consultant, working on a range wasted-related projects from waste auditing through to community and school education programs. He has also held positions in the Metropolitan Waste and Resource Group as Strategic Advisor, leading development of the Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Implementation Plan.
Shannon holds a Bachelor of Environmental Science (Environmental Management) from Deakin University. He lives in Melbourne with his wife and two sons.
